Our last 2 days were tough ones. Slightly behind schedule, we finished up the paint and got the building furnished while the contract workers make quick work of the electricals and bathrooms. We were able to decorate the room with posters little details that we hope the kids will love.
After finishing early and playing with the kids, we made our way over to a gift shop were we bought small gifts to hand out to the kids the next day during the closing ceremony.
As we went back home, we prepared speeches and enjoyed our last meal at the church.
The day of the closing ceremony, we left strictly at 7 AM. The ceremony was a carefully planned hour of speeches, dancing, and eating. The entire community was not able to make it out due to COVID-19 but the school and people close to the project made sure to attend.
It was definitely a fulfilling morning- one that we will always remember.
After the ceremony, we went out to a food court of sorts were we had a celebratory hotpot lunch with our extended team.
After recovering from food coma, Khem took us to a restaurant for dinner closer to the downtown area of the province. There we were able to present the last of our gifts to people that made our stay all the better.
We planned to leave Friday morning and, since it was Thursday, we knew the end of our stay was almost over. In reflecting on our journey, I can say that this experience will have a lasting impact on all of us. Not only did we grow as engineers, we grew as people. Living in another culture for two weeks and working with them to help their community is truly an amazing experience. I thank PUC for the opportunity and the community which we stayed for making the implementation of our project as amazing as it was. Thank you for keeping up with our project, without all of your support this project would not have become a reality.
